5 Must-Have Tools For Small Business Digital Marketing

Friends, I don’t know about you but in my business I need to wear many hats.

If you’re a small business owner and you’re venturing into the world of digital marketing for the first time I wanted to share with you a few tools that are guaranteed to make your life much easier when you’re wearing your marketing hat.

It can also get lonely being a one-woman show, that’s why I like to think of these tools as an extension to my solopreneur marketing team.

Let me introduce you to my designer, content-writer, content coordinator, project manager and personal assistant.

1. Canva (Your Designer)

Canva is a design software tool that helps me to create beautiful designs for my clients and I highly recommend it to creatives and entrepreneurs who might not have a budget to high a graphic designer or photographer.

It has an abundance of free templates for every kind of media you can think of from social media graphics, presentations, advertisements, posters, business cards, and I could go on and on.

Recently I upgraded my subscription to the premium option offering more due to their library of stock photos that are licensed with the upgrade.

I am all about personal branding and having authentic original images, but sometimes I need access to an object or location - Canva has become my go-to for this.

MY FAVOURITE THING ABOUT CANVA?

The ease of use and variety of customizable, done-for-you content

2. Grammarly (Your Content Writer)

Have you ever written a blog post or caption on social media and realized afterwards there’s a typo?

Or maybe you’re writing something, and you can’t think of the word that’s on the tip of your tongue to complete your marketing copy.

We’ve all been there!

Grammarly is my content writing assistant and the answer to all of my content writing prayers!

She (yes she!) proofreads all of my creative writing spell-checks, eliminates grammar errors and overall makes my writing so much clearer and effective.

MY FAVOURITE THING ABOUT GRAMMARLY?

Grammarly gives you a lot in the free plan, but with the Grammarly premium option I simply enter my brand style for that piece of content, and she helps me to stay in my lane for the style, readability and overall conciseness in my texts.

It saves me so much time and is just one of those things you need when you’re regularly writing content for different platforms and channels.

Another bonus is that she is available as a browser extension which works on all of my social media platforms, website builders and Mac programs so I can write, write, write and she’s just there in the background continually improving my writing techniques for my business.

I highly recommend you to try out the free version and I can’t wait to hear what you think!

3. Later (Your Content Coordinator)

Later is a fantastic social media scheduler that enables you to plan your posts in advance.

I mainly use this platform for my clients who use Instagram, but it is also a perfect solution for those who need to plan Tiktok, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Linkedin and posts too!

This scheduler not only helps me plan out beautifully aesthetic feeds, its also an absolute time-saver when it comes to preparing content in bulk.

MY FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LATER?

It can be used on both desktop and mobile, and their free plan allows you to do just about everything you need 30 posts per month per social platform.

If you sign up with this link, you’ll get 10 free posts from me!

You’re welcome 🙂

4. Dropbox (Your Project Manager)

Dropbox is a central place to keep all of your marketing assets and share them with your team or third party vendors, for example, designers, printers or event planners.

Like all storage services, there is a limit of how much you can hold in a free account but it’s perfect for small business owners who are collaborating with other vendors.

If you sign up with this link, you will receive 500MB free space.

MY FAVOURITE THING ABOUT DROPBOX?

How easy it is to share large digital files, documents and contracts.

Simply copy and paste a link and my clients have access to download their files instantly.

5. Capcut (Your video assistant)

Capcut is my go-to for any Reels, IG story and Tiktok content that I need to edit.

I use it for my client content but also my own. It’s a free mobile app available on your android or apple store and it has everything you need for video editing on social media.

MY FAVOURITE THING ABOUT CAPCUT?

You can add auto captions to your videos - which is a must for those of us that don’t have captions on native platforms yet.
